lmao, that segment about trying to read Ulysses in three weeks cracked me up. That is one of those books that takes as long to read as it did to write.

Someone recommended I listen along to the audio book as I read. Perhaps that would've greased the rails.

Oh, I'm so excited for your future opinion of Yellow Face. (Someone asked me if it was a musical - LOL - based on the RF Kuang book - ROFLMAO.) How on-your-radar is David Henry Hwang? I think he's one of the great living American playwrights (great guy, too), but his work doesn't get staged all that often here. Even at the college level - especially at the college level! Your average theater BFA program doesn't have enough East Asian kids for you to even cast a play like Chinglish or FOB.

I don't think I've seen anything by Hwang so this will be my first! Will share my thoughts after.

Yay theatre! The only reason to live in NYC is for the cultural opportunities (and cheap airfare out of JFK and LGA). There is a ton of Black theatre too which is exciting but disheartening as theatre in NYC is also prohibitively expensive. Broadway is pricey everywhere which is reassuring.

And we are entering theatre season, but I am hoping to make it to NYC next year to see the new Stranger Things musical/play. I am not a fan of the show, but the production looks so exciting. And Jake Gyllenhaal is doing Othello next spring with Denzel Washington which will cost a fortune I already know. But I love both of them, even though I dont like Shakespeare.

My hope is to see theatre all over the US and eventually the world.
