The only line in Too Much that made me lol was when Jessica tells her mother / Marnie’s mother that she is seeing someone and she replies: “That’s one area of your life in which you waste no time.” I loved it because it does seem like she has no interests in anything besides her love life and dogs; it’s Trauma As Personality syndrome. Like you said, this kind of myopia makes more sense in someone who’s in their early 20s, but it’s just not very believable or fun to watch in someone a decade older. I dig the love story / love Will Sharpe’s acting but struggling to finish the show. Have you seen Sharp Stick? IDK why that movie didn’t get more attention, I thought it was brilliant and had all the things Girls does so well
I've enjoyed the first few episodes. It doesn't have the ambition of Girls, but it has the same lack of preachiness, and that feels more remarkable now. I agree that the scenes with the ex-boyfriend don't work, but the scenes with the two leads do work, and that's often all you need in a romantic comedy.
Jessica does remind me of Hannah, but she's nowhere near as messy.
I was also disappointed in Too Much n I think u broke it down well! Tbh I believe Gen Z’s Lena Dunham is Rachel Sennott so I’m eagerly awaiting her HBO series release…
I accidentally left this comment on your other Girls post, but this is a really great piece! IMO part of why Girls worked so well was Lena Dunham's acting ability. She was able to be so raw, and Megan Stalter's acting style seemed a bit self-conscious/flinchy despite playing a character who, like Hannah, is clueless and stampedes through boundaries.
Thanks, Emily! Yes, Dunham the actress was such a key factor in making Girls work. It makes me want to see an alternative universe version where another actress played Hannah and how different that would've been.
Was it not written of old that "In the future, everyone will be famous for at least fifteen minutes"?
Seems, Lena had her fifteen and is trying to rekindle that flame. It rarely works. This is also why a reboot is rarely as good as the original, it's almost always recycled plot lines and jokes that have gone stale. The set are looking for one last payday, but they'll never catch lighting again in that bottle.

I'll check out Sharp Stick! Also I love how you just referred to Jessica's mom as "Marnie's mother." She'll always be Marnie's mom.
off to figure out what the Khwarazmians were
Maybe "were" could've been "are" if they didn't love killing Genghis' emissaries so much

Would be curious to get your thoughts when you finish the show. Hope my review didn't have too many spoilers!

Thanks Chau! I've only seen Sennott in Bodies Bodies Bodies. Would be interesting to see what she does with a whole show.
I'd highly recommend her movies, Shiva Baby and I Used to Be Funny! Handles some heavy topics with crazy gen z specific humor
Thanks, will check those out! I've heard good things about Shiva Baby.

I like the Momus quote: "In the future, everyone will be famous to fifteen people"
